National Hockey League (NHL)
Highest level ice hockey league with teams based in the United States and Canada. The league awards the Stanley Cup Trophy to the highest ranking team each year. The National Hockey League was established in 1917.

American Hockey League (AHL)
Established in 1936. Has teams based in the United States and Canada. One of the top development leagues for the National Hockey league (NHL). The league's predecessors were the Canadian-American Hockey League (Can-Am League), established in 1926 and the International Hockey League, established in 1929.

ECHL
